Multiverse

Project Overview

Multiverse is a modern, tech-first, apprenticeship provider, who combine work and learning to unlock economic opportunities for everyone. Apprenticeships at Multiverse are delivered by harnessing human-centred coaching, technology and AI. They offer career pathways into data analytics, data science and, more recently, have been moving heavily into the AI space.

The Challenge

  • Struggled to scale security with the company’s growth
  • Had to align with customers’ security needs
  • Operated with a small internal team
  • Needed to meet compliance requirements

The Solution

  • Wingman MDR scales with growth
  • Customer-aligned assurance
  • Collaborative, hands-on support
  • Compliance-ready security framework

The Challenge

Working with companies of all different sizes, and corporations around the world, it is imperative they keep their customer’s data secure. With Multiverse receiving a recent valuation of $1.7 billion, and their turnover doubling year-on-year, it is crucial that their security matures as quickly as the business grows.

The rapid growth of Multiverse brought new challenges, particularly ensuring that security measures evolved alongside the business.

Their growth also meant that security initiatives needed to be accelerated, Ryan Davies, Information Security Manager at Multiverse explained: “It was something already on the roadmap that we managed to bring forward by customer demands and needs,” Ryan added. Achieving certifications such as ISO 27001 and SOC2, for which the company is currently undergoing the audit process, has become a key milestone in meeting regulatory requirements and building customer trust.

The Solution

Recognising that their small internal security team required additional support, Multiverse looked for a partner who could deliver both technical expertise and a collaborative, customer-focused approach. “We are a fairly small but highly skilled team at Multiverse, and assistance is often needed to onboard and provide security assurance around the services we provide to our customers,” Ryan explained.

In evaluating potential partners, Multiverse placed a strong emphasis on customer service and ongoing support. Ryan highlighted the importance of working with a provider who would be proactive and responsive to their growing needs: “SEP2 have been friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make sure we’re happy with the service we’re getting and the ongoing outreach to see if there’s any changes that need to be made.” This commitment to partnership and continuous improvement was a key factor in Multiverse’s decision to choose SEP2’s Wingman MDR solution.

Multiverse’s decision to partner with SEP2 was influenced by Ryan’s familiarity with the team through previous interactions in earlier roles, as well as the alignment of SEP2 and Multiverse’s ethos and values. “From my previous experience with SEP2, the way they handle their customers is ideal,” Ryan said. “It fits perfectly with what we’re trying to achieve – it’s just the ideal partnership.”

The onboarding process went smoothly, with lots of support from SEP2. Ryan said: “We had numerous calls and weekly touchpoints; our tech teams, as well as our security team, worked with SEP2 to onboard the products. We were also assisted with any issues or errors that occurred.” Ryan expanded to explain the level of communication between SEP2 and Multiverse: “It’s been a really collaborative approach – you guys are contactable via Slack, which is ideal, and you always respond quickly, which is key for us.”

SEP2’s flexibility and willingness to adapt to Multiverse’s requirements has been valuable. Ryan explained: “SEP2 fit around our organisation, you manage to fit how we operate here at Multiverse. I know we’re not the most straightforward customer, but your approach has suited what we’re trying to achieve and what our model is.”

Looking to the future

As Multiverse continues to grow, the partnership with SEP2 will remain an important contributor to future success. The collaborative approach and flexibility demonstrated by SEP2 have set a strong foundation for ongoing security maturity and innovation.
With SEP2’s support, Multiverse is well-positioned to meet new challenges, adapt to changing customer requirements, and maintain the high standards of security and compliance that their clients expect. The ongoing relationship ensures that Multiverse can continue to scale confidently, knowing they have a trusted partner invested in their long-term success.

Testimonials

Hear From Those We Protect

You’re vendor agnostic, which is key for growth, and your team are providing really good insights in terms of the alerts raised. They also provide meaningful context behind them, which is great for us as an organisation,”

When we hit the limits of our knowledge, it’s having SEP2 there to say, ‘Try these things first.’ That expertise on hand is really important to us.

To have people like that around our account that we can pick the phone up to and ask questions was refreshing. Ultimately, we trusted SEP2 and we trust you with our cyber security.

Often the term used is ‘you can’t see the wood for the trees’. Most organisations implement security tooling tools and you’ve got different dashboards. The idea is you put them into a single place, and leverage expert resource such as the SEP2 SOC that actually understands that data and work with it on a daily basis. They can assess it case-by-case and escalate it back to us at Funding Circle only when necessary. And that whole process has been really, really smooth.

They are phenomenal: both personable and very knowledgeable. Our main contact is like a fountain of knowledge. If you ask him a question, he always comes back with ten answers – all the shades of grey, not just a ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’ To me that shows the level of passion he has, and that he really wants to do things properly.

The original group of people who founded SEP2 were very deep in their knowledge of this type of technology, which can be complicated. It’s become the whole field of firewalls, intrusion prevention, antivirus, ransomware, etc. Cyber security as a whole has really ballooned, and there’s lots of dimensions to it, but you’ve managed to keep up.

During the evaluation process it was clear to me that SEP2 were the strongest candidate from a technical standpoint. During our first meeting, their ability to give immediate solutions to ongoing issues we were experiencing at the time was a breath of fresh air.

SEP2 are knowledgeable, motivated and switched on; they take ownership and they have a drive for resolution. They know their stuff! They are not merely a firewall partner, they are a cyber security partner. They take a strategic approach. They are approachable and offer additional value outside of their support contract. Working with SEP2 means we are no longer fire-fighting; rather we can now take a step back and proactively get things sorted. SEP2 say they are tech driven and people powered, and that’s exactly what they are! It all comes down to the people you are dealing with.

They live and breathe the technology. It comes from the top, however, everyone is an expert within SEP2, from sales through to the service desk. We don’t want to wait to be told what more we can get from vendors’ products. SEP2 are great in pro-actively helping us achieve value-add solutions. They aren’t about chasing revenues, they are about providing best possible value.
