Realities from the Frontline
A major highlight of the afternoon was our customer panel, hosted by Paul Starr. We brought together pioneering IT and security leaders to share their direct operational experiences:
- Dai Roberts, Head of ICT, Wrexham County Borough Council
- Alison Nickson, Head of Information Security and Data Protection Officer, Retail Energy Code Company
- Tim Goldfield, Head of Shared Technology Services, Admiral Money
- Keith Joy, Head of Digital and Technology Infrastructure, University of the Arts London
The panel engaged in a warm, honest, and incredibly grounded discussion about the shared commitment required to tackle today’s cyber security realities head-on. Rather than getting swept up in industry hype, the panel focused on the vital importance of doing the foundational basics brilliantly.
Keith Joy shared a fascinating look at University of the Arts London’s transition from legacy VLANs to automated, intent-based network segmentation, whilst Alison Nickson offered a pragmatic perspective on maintaining achievable, verified security standards across complicated supply chains where standard frameworks like ISO 27001 may not always be the best fit. The session wrapped up with a look at the evolving boardroom dynamic, noting a proactive shift in executive awareness regarding recovery speeds and dedicated budgets for safe AI implementation.
