SEP2’s award-winning apprenticeship scheme was launched in 2020 in an effort to provide the next generation with hands-on experience and industry-relevant skills. We spoke with Isabella Hall, a Level 3 HR apprentice, to gain insights into what an apprenticeship at SEP2 entails and how it can benefit those interested in different fields within cyber security.
I started my apprenticeship journey with SEP2 after completing my A-level studies. I chose an apprenticeship over university because I felt that learning while gaining hands-on experience suited my learning style and would help my knowledge progress naturally and effectively.
I chose a career in HR after realising the positive impact I could have on peoples’ everyday lives. I love the challenge of an ever-changing environment and solving organisational issues to benefit the company and its employees. SEP2 was the perfect place to start my journey in HR. From SEP2’s values to its impressive culture, I felt welcomed from the beginning. I’m grateful for the opportunity to complete my apprenticeship in a company and team that supports my learning and encourages me to be my best.
Throughout my experience with SEP2, my manager has always been a source of wisdom from the ‘silly’ questions to the complex ones. As I approach the final weeks of my apprenticeship, my manager continues to aid and support my progression.
Completing this apprenticeship has greatly boosted my confidence in the workplace. I’ve learned where I fit professionally and how my ideas can make an impact. This experience has also grown my personal confidence in my ability to succeed at whatever I set my mind to.
One challenge I’ve faced during my apprenticeship is balancing my apprenticeship work with my daily role. Fortunately, SEP2 offers one paid day of study leave per week, but stepping away from my workload can still feel stressful! Setting aside dedicated time for my learning and managing my time realistically has helped me stay on track.
After completing my apprenticeship, I aspire to gain as much experience as possible before undertaking further training to specialise in organisation development, design, and employee relations.
SEP2’s apprenticeship scheme is a shining example of our dedication to bridging the skills gap in cyber security. Through hands-on experience and industry-relevant training, apprentices like Isabella Hall are gaining valuable knowledge while contributing to SEP2’s success.
For those considering a career in HR or any field within cyber security, SEP2’s apprenticeship programme offers a supportive and enriching environment to kickstart their careers.
